Summary

Hitchin Youth Allotment has expand to support more kids. This session is to help us with some basic gardening, clearing beds etc as sessions are ramping up.

Detailed description

No special skills needed but if you like being outside and gardening you will like this. We have a lovely group of people involved. When people come along they always say they enjoy it. All tools provided along with drinks and snacks. You can bring your own gloves or we can lend you some.


We are based at Old Hale Way Allotment site in Hitchin. If you haven't been before I can give you directions and you can call me when you arrive so you can find us.


Please let me know if you are coming so I know rough numbers.


By doing this you will be supporting children in and around Hitchin get outside, learn a bit about gardening and encourage healthy eating. We support over 250 children each year and they love coming to the project.

Getting there

We are based at the allotments on Old Hale Way. Head towards Ickleford on Old Hale Way, the allotments are behind the houses on the right. Take the track next to the last house on the right, through the red gate and into the site. Call me when you arrive and I will meet you.

About Hitchin Youth Allotment

Hitchin Youth Allotment (HiYA) is a successful and nationally recognised community organisation run to get young people involved with gardening and growing fruit and vegetables. It is a fund and hands on environment linking up with local schools and youth groups. It is based on an allotment site in Hitchin and is run by a dedicated and friendly group of volunteers who deliver sessions with young people and maintain the allotment plots. It is a great place to volunteer for people keen on gardening, allotments, the environment and getting children outside!
