Love Social Media? Want to Make a Difference? If you are 18-24 living in Hertfordshire, join us at Herts Young Homeless (hyh) as a Social Media Volunteer!
This opportunity is designed for young people aged 18–24 as part of our youth voice work, helping ensure our content is shaped by young people’s ideas and experiences.
If you are 18-24 and living in Hertfordshire, you could join us at Herts Young Homeless (hyh) as a Social Media Volunteer!
We're looking for creative, passionate young people to join our friendly and supportive team, working together to prevent and support those facing youth homelessness. Some challenges they may be facing include family breakdown, domestic violence, and mental health challenges.
You will help us create content that supports other young people and breaks the stigma surrounding youth homelessness.
Placement Length
We hope volunteers will be able to stay involved for around 12 months, but we understand circumstances can change.
Location
This role is best suited to someone based in, or with a strong connection to, Hertfordshire. However, this is a hybrid role with around 6-8 in-person meetups across the year at our Hatfield office, plus flexible working from home for editing and content analysis. We envision that the meetups will be held on a weekday evening.
What You'll Be Doing
- Creating TikToks, Reels, Stories and social posts
- Filming and appearing in content
- Sharing your ideas and helping shape campaigns
- Taking part in content creation days alongside other young volunteers and our youth advisory board.
- Learning how to track posts using social media to make maximum impact
- Have the opportunity to attend the St Albans Sleepout and create live content coverage of our biggest event of the year!
What's In It For You?
- Gain real-world social media and marketing experience
- Build your portfolio with content for a well-known local charity
- Learn content planning, filming, editing and analytics
- Get training and support from our Communications Team
- Meet like-minded young people
- We reimburse agreed out-of-pocket expenses, such as travel to in-person sessions, in line with our volunteer expenses guidance.
- Possibility to boost your CV, LinkedIn profile and future job applications
We're Looking For People Who:
- Are aged 18-24
- Live in Hertfordshire
- Are creative, enthusiastic and willing to learn
- Care about supporting young people
- Want to build skills in social media, marketing or communications
- Are happy to share ideas and get involved on camera
- We will provide guidance and support around safe storytelling, consent, confidentiality and looking after yourself when creating content.
- You may have lived experience of homelessness, housing insecurity or related challenges, but this is not required. You will never be expected to share personal experiences unless you choose to.
- It would be useful if you have experience of using Canva, although not essential
No experience? No problem. You don't need to be an expert, just bring your enthusiasm and personality!
