HVA uses an email newsletters to share news with its Artists, Business Members and subscribers. This key role prepares and schedules newsletters.
Herts Visual Arts CIC (HVA) has around 400 Artist and Business Members and a growing subscriber mailing list. Each month we send out two similar newsletters about events, activities, opportunities and other news. The Newsletter Compiler plays a key role by preparing and scheduling these monthly newsletters and other newsletters to subsets of our artists ahead of specific events.
What will you do?
As the Newsletter Compiler you will work in a small team with a Copy Writer and Editor. You will
- Maintain all the contact lists and remove any duplicates or obvious spam contacts, aiming to keep each distribution list to less than 2000 people, and removing any Artists who appear on the 'Extras' list.
- Maintain the split groups in the Artists lists on Mailchimp so that newsletters can be sent relevant to specific HVA events.
- Use the copy provided by the Copy Writer or Copy Editor to compile each newsletter using the relevant HVA Mailchimp template, adding relevant images and also details of other exhibitions and workshops that have been supplied by the artists.
- Add recognition of the originator for any images that have been supplied by an outside organisation or one of the HVA volunteers.
- Schedule the newsletters to be sent out by email on agreed dates.
- Liaise with other members of the volunteer team as necessary.
What are we looking for?
You will be ideal for this role if you have:
- experience of a mailing app, ideally Mailchimp and of Microsoft Word (or similar)
- an understanding of how to cut and paste copy from one app to another
- the ability to find and copy images from an online database resizing as necessary
- excellent attention to detail
- the ability to work independently as part of a remote team and to meet agreed deadlines usually in the last week of each month
What's in it for you?
This is a home-based volunteering role allowing you to contribute at times that suit your lifestyle, knowing that your contribution helps support and promote HVA activities to local artists, art lovers and supporters.
It offers you the opportunity to develop skills in the use of mailing apps, to increase your understanding of newsletter design, to demonstrate your ability to work as part of a team, and to meet specific deadlines.
This role will report to the Head of Community Engagement and the Executive Team.
