Keen to make a difference in your local community? We’re looking for friendly, reliable, and compassionate volunteers to support our SightLife social groups.

These groups provide a safe, welcoming space where people with sight loss can connect, build friendships, and enjoy meaningful activities, and we need your help to make that happen!

Whether you’re ready to lead a group or support behind the scenes, we have a role for you:

Group Leaders

Could you take the lead in running one of our groups? You’ll help with:

  • Planning activities and discussions
  • Keeping track of attendance
  • Ensuring transport arrangements are in place
  • Organising refreshments and snacks
  • Coordinating day trips or events
  • Offering one-to-one support

Group Support Volunteers

Prefer to lend a helping hand? We’d love support with:

  • Making and serving teas and coffees
  • Providing friendly company and conversation
  • Helping members with transport
  • Acting as a sighted guide for those who need it

Our Current Groups:

  • Welwyn Garden City
  • Stevenage
  • Hemel Hempstead
  • Letchworth Garden City
  • St Albans

Each group takes place once a month for 2 to 3 hours.

What You’ll Need:

  • A friendly, patient attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to learn about visual impairment and sighted guiding (training provided)
  • Reliability and a desire to have fun!
  • Be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check (fully funded by us)

Together, we can create welcoming spaces that reduce isolation and bring joy to people living with sight loss in Hertfordshire.
