Summary

One off, occasional or regular help wanted with writing down monumental inscriptions from churchyards around Hertfordshire

Detailed description

We are looking for project assistants to help us 'record' the monumental inscriptions on graves in churchyards in Hertfordshire. We write these down and make them available as publications to family historians.

We will provide full training in reading the inscriptions, and full equipment required on the day to help read the inscription and clear the headstone of grass etc. All you will need is appropriate clothing for the time of year and appropriate footwear (parts of some churchyards may be overgrown with grass and nettles). You may also need transport to wherever we are recording.

Please contact us if this sounds like something you could contribute to. Perhaps you would like to help as a team/group charitable activity?

Get in touch for more information and to go on our contact list for our next monumental inscription day.

About Hertfordshire Family History Society

A registered charity (285008), we aim to educate and inform about family history for people researching ancestry in Hertfordshire, or Hertfordshire people generally wanting help getting started with family history research. We hold monthly talks available on Zoom and in person at Woolmer Green, Hertfordshire, produce a quarterly Journal called 'Hertfordshire People', and produce publications and monumental inscription indexes focused on Hertfordshire to help researchers.
