Summary

Volunteers are needed to open, close and supervise an internet cafe that has been created for Afghan families living in a bridging hotel in Hemel Hempstead.

Detailed description

Volunteers are needed on Monday's and Friday's from 10am - 2pm to support Afghan families living in a bridging hotel in Hemel Hempstead to access an internet cafe within the hotel.


This is a great opportunity for anyone that is interested in helping with technology. It will make a huge difference to the lives of Afghan families as they integrate into our communities across Hertfordshire.


Volunteer tasks include:


  • Collecting the keys for the cafe from hotel reception
  • Ensuring all equipment in functional
  • Opening the internet cafe
  • Supervising who is accessing the cafe (no under 18's allowed)
  • Closing the cafe
  • Reporting any issues to the Local Authority Liaison Officer 


*Please note that this list is not exhaustive, and volunteers may be asked to support in other areas as deemed relevant by charity partners on the ground*


As a volunteer in this role you will need to:

  • Problem solve and use your initiative 
  • Feel comfortable asking questions if necessary
  • Have great communication skills
  • Be happy to sometimes take control


Additional information:

Volunteers will be fully briefed on the requirements of this role by the Local Authority Liaison Officer. Volunteers will be provided with contact details in case of any queries/ concerns.


Volunteer expenses will be reimbursed. Please ask the Local Authority Liaison Officer for an expenses form which will need to be completed and submitted.
