Summary

We are looking for someone with carpentry skills to help maintain the structures in our therapy garden - a vital role in keeping the garden safe and accessible.

Detailed description

You will be helping us with mending, and potentially constructing, raised beds, edges, trellises, fences and general carpentry maintenance on the Growing People site. Naturally we will provide tools and materials.

As we work with vulnerable people who have mental health issues, it’s really important that we maintain the site to a high standard, and you would be playing a big part in this. As you can imagine, for our therapeutic sessions to run effectively, we need to keep the site in good order: the raised beds make horticultural therapy accessible to people with physical disabilities, while building good edges for our paths and beds helps keep the garden safe and tidy, which helps to ensure that coming to the garden will be a peaceful and pleasant experience.

We'd like you to be knowledgeable and skilled in the sorts of jobs described above, to be prepared to work outdoors whatever the weather and to work safely, be reliable and able to work as a part of a team. Ideally, we'd like you to volunteer on Thursday mornings, but other days may be possible. We can discuss this.

We will provide a safe and friendly working environment, offer relevant training and there will be occasional social events at which you can meet the wider group of volunteers, staff and gardeners (what we call our service users). You will be working as part of a compassionate, energetic and friendly team, in our beautiful orchard garden, where birds and butterflies regularly come to visit. You will know that your work is making a positive difference to people’s lives, and you will receive our whole-hearted appreciation, and as much tea and coffee as you can drink!
