Green Shelter Society UK is a community-driven organisation focused on sustainable gardening, biodiversity, environmental education, and intergenerational engagement. We deliver seed swaps, plant swaps, surplus produce drives, senior nature walks, youth leadership programmes, and
research-informed environmental initiatives.
Job Summary:
As a Volunteer, you will support the delivery of community-based environmental initiatives. Volunteers assist in event coordination, community engagement, and practical tasks that promote sustainability and biodiversity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the setup and pack-down of community events.
- Support seed and plant sorting and distribution at swap events.
- Engage respectfully with community members and participants.
- Support senior nature walks and intergenerational activities.
- Promote sustainable gardening and environmentally responsible practices.
- Represent Green Shelter Society UK in a professional manner.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and organisational policies.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
- No formal qualifications required
- A genuine interest in sustainability, community engagement, and environmental initiatives
- Willingness to learn and work as part of a team
Desirable (but not required):
- Previous volunteering experience
- Experience in community events or youth/senior engagement
- Basic knowledge of gardening or sustainable practices
- First Aid or safeguarding training
- Event coordination or leadership experience
Important Information
Volunteer roles are flexible and may involve one-off events or ongoing participation. Volunteers are expected to act respectfully, adhere to organisational policies, and support a safe and inclusive environment for all participants.
This is a voluntary, unpaid role. Volunteers are not employees of Green Shelter Society UK. Volunteers may be required to consent to a DBS check for roles involving children or vulnerable adults. Volunteers under the age of 18 must provide written parental or guardian consent. All volunteers may be expected to attend a short briefing prior to events to ensure they understand their responsibilities and organisational procedures.
