Detailed description

We are delighted to have developed a growing team of Compassionate Neighbours who offer friendship and a listening ear to a lonely and/or socially isolated person in their local community.

Each Compassionate Neighbour is matched with a community member who they commit to visiting for at least 1 hour per week. They offer regular companionship, emotional support and a listening ear, often sharing common hobbies or interests and helping people remain connected to their community.

What you’ll get from joining the Compassionate Neighbours team

Compassionate Neighbours have fun! This is a chance to develop your skills in listening, compassion and empathy through joining a community of like-minded people.  As well as learning about the devastating impact loneliness and social isolation can have, you will build some valuable skills and experience. Most importantly, you will gain the satisfaction which comes from a mutually rewarding relationship.

Support you will receive

We are committed to supporting your development as a successful Compassionate Neighbour. Support includes:

·               induction, training and regular meetings with other Compassionate Neighbours

·               1:1 support from the hospice Compassionate Neighbours team if needed

·               the opportunity to attend diverse hospice-based or online courses such as meditation
