Our Energy Champions provide essential information for residents to save money on their energy bill and make their homes warmer and healthier

Detailed description

Location: Hertfordshire (Three Rivers, Dacorum, Watford, and surrounding areas)


Commitment: Flexible hours, ideally 4–6 hours/week

Start Date: Rolling recruitment from September 2025


Role Overview

As a Volunteer Energy Champion, you’ll be the friendly face of energy information in your community—empowering residents to reduce energy bills, improve home comfort, and take steps toward a low-carbon future. To start with you'll attend local events and offer practical, impartial guidance tailored to each household’s needs. If you'd like to get involved in the Home Visits, once trained, the opportunity to expand into this area is also available.


This role is part of GUCE’s mission to ensure no one is left behind in the energy transition, especially those in vulnerable circumstances.


Key Responsibilities

  • Attend community events, workshops, and pop-ups to raise awareness
  • Support residents in understanding bills, tariffs, and available support schemes
  • Promote low-cost and no-cost actions to improve energy efficiency
  • Signpost residents to relevant grants, retrofit schemes, and support services
  • Collect feedback and insights to help GUCE improve its outreach and impact
  • Champion sustainability and energy resilience within your local area


All volunteers receive:

  • Bespoke training from Community Energy Pathways and GUCE (fully funded)
  • Ongoing mentoring and peer support
  • Access to resources, toolkits, and branded materials
  • DBS checks paid for by GUCE


What We’re Looking For

  • Passion for sustainability, community action, and helping others
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Comfortable engaging with diverse residents, including vulnerable groups
  • Reliable, empathetic, and proactive
  • No prior energy experience required—just a willingness to learn
