Summary

Our current Chairperson is stepping down after three years and we are seeking someone new to join our committee and take on this role.

Detailed description

About Us

The Fleetville Community Playgroup is a non-profit preschool for up to 24 children aged 2-4 that meets Monday-Thursday at the Fleetville Community Centre in St Albans. There has been a preschool in this setting for over 25 years, and we are a part of the Fleetville community.

The Playgroup is a registered charity that is managed by a small, friendly committee of parents and community volunteers. Its members are elected at our Annual General Meeting which is held in the Autumn term. The Committee manages the Playgroup’s finances and employs the staff as well as adopting and overseeing the implementation of policies. The Committee also organises social and fundraising activities throughout the year.

Our Chairperson should have the passion and vision to support the Playgroup’s objectives and its cause, a commitment to early years education in the local community, and the ability to foster and promote a collaborative team environment.

Your Role

In addition to the general Trustee responsibilities noted above, as Chairperson your role will be to ensure that Trustees fulfil their duties and responsibilities for the effective governance of the Charity; to ensure the Playgroup complies with Ofsted requirements; and, in partnership with the Treasurer and Playgroup Manager, ensure the sound financial health of the playgroup, with systems in place to ensure financial accountability.

We ask that you attend the AGM as well as at least two Committee meetings per term (either in person, in St Albans, or occasionally online). In addition, the Chairperson must attend in person if an Ofsted inspection is called. The Chairperson conducts an annual salary review for each member of staff, along with either the Playgroup Manager or another member of the Committee. This is an unpaid role but reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

The role requires a DBS check, including a check of the Children’s Barred List, and an EY2 from Ofsted. If you do not already hold these, we can help you apply.

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee Chairperson for the Fleetville Community Playgroup, please contact us by email (contact details can be found on our website).
