EcoBerko’s aim is to see Berkhamsted, Northchurch and the surrounding area become a thriving, sustainable community, powered by clean energy, with nature at its heart.
Our mission is to provide leadership, and to connect, catalyse and take local action to deliver our vision.
We are entirely run by volunteers, have a core Steering Group, project action teams and regular volunteers/meeting attendees of up to 40 people.
Our wider contact and action list membership is over 900 strong. EcoBerko is open to and encourages involvement from everyone in the local community
Purpose
This role is ideal for someone passionate about climate and nature, looking to build, extend or just maintain their skill set while between jobs, in a career break, looking for a job, or looking to learn skills in a new area of work they would like to move into, or just have spare time and want to contribute.
We are looking for someone who can help provide vital skills and knowledge, shaping our ethical, accountable, and safe operating foundations, ensuring they scale sustainably while staying true to our mission..
Main Tasks
What You'll Lead On:
- Keep risk register up to date and ensure key risks are identified, monitored, and acted on.
- Carry out compliance checks, reviews, and due-diligence processes across partners, projects and others involved with EcoBerko.
- Support safeguarding, GDPR, anti-fraud and donor-compliance standards across the organisation.
- Provide clear, timely reports and guidance to senior leaders and trustees.
- Deliver short trainings and refreshers on compliance, ethics, and risk.
Skill, experience, and qualities needed
What You'll Bring:
- Knowledge of UK charity regulation, donor compliance, safeguarding and GDPR, or willingness to acquire and maintain that knowledge.
- Excellent communication, analytical skills, and the confidence to flag issues early.
- High integrity and discretion.
Nice to have:
- Ideally Charity/NGO experience within risk, compliance or audit roles, with proven framework delivery.
