Summary

Hands on helping our horticulture team helping with weeding, sowing, harvesting and seasonal horticulture activities.

Detailed description

Spend time outdoors, get hands on helping our horticulture team and learn about growing first hand - we produce such a wide range of food (without using fungicides, insecticides and pesticides!) which takes a lot of people-power. As well as a core team we rely on the support and generosity of local businesses, corporate partners, interns and volunteers to continue the work that we do. Much of the food grown and produced at the farm is also done with the involvement of the Rural Care and co-farming team.

Help is needed with all aspects of horticulture, from digging, weeding, sowing, planting out, harvesting, general tidying up plus seasonal horticulture activities. We have a small kitchen garden, soft fruit orchard, field scale vegetables and a wonderful 8 acre orchard of 130 varieties of fruit: apples, gages, plums, cherries, quince, medlar, pears, damsons, mulberries and more!

We are looking for volunteers to help regularly, one, two, three or more days a week - whatever you can manage.

About Church Farm Ardelely Cic

We are a not-for-profit farming, food, care and education farm. Our aim is to enhance the countryside, provide people with special needs the opportunity to learn and grow, conserve wildlife and farm ecologically. Rural care & education programmes are at the heart of everything we do here at Church Farm, providing training and work experience for people with learning disabilities and/or mental health issues in a supportive and caring environment on a fully working farm.

We offer educational trips, internships and programmes to local schools and colleges and also work in partnership with North Hertfordshire College to provide accredited training for their students with learning disabilities on the farm.

We are able to cater to single volunteers, small groups through to large corporate events. Increasingly, we have seen companies opting to do something ‘real’ for building their teams. A 2017 study found that a company’s CSR strategy is a big factor in where
today’s top talent chooses to work. Often this is referred to as the triple bottom
line: People, Planet, and Revenue. Companies are encouraged to put that increased
profit into programmes that give back.

Events at the farm are ideal for groups who prefer to do something real on Team Building & Away Days, who want a fulfilling learning programme as well as practical experience. Church Farm Ardeley & Aldenham Country Park are particularly suited to organisations and events that are about sustainability and to those that take seriously
the impact enterprise can have on people and the environment. Events can range from half day seminars to programmes over several days.

Team-building opportunities – such programmes can help build bonds, strengthen communication skills and boost morale while making a positive difference in the lives of people who need it most. Above all, participating in CSR team building programs are
both fun and fulfilling.
