Summary

We are currently looking for empathic people with experience of bereavement.

Detailed description

CHUMS is a well-established emotional

wellbeing/bereavement service in

Bedfordshire, and has now extended

their services to Hertfordshire and

West Essex where we deliver a

suicide bereavement service, offering

emotional and practical support.


We are currently looking for empathetic

people with experience of bereavement

to help with the following:


FACILITATING GROUPS.

We offer a support group for adults bereaved by suicide

in a local community venue once a month.

We would welcome volunteers to attend in a supportive

capacity, working alongside a trained member of staff.

Your tasks will be to help with setting up the venue which

currently in Welwyn Garden City, welcoming people and

being on hand with cups of tea.


PROVIDING SUPPORT TO SERVICE

USERS VIA A BEFRIENDING ROLE.

You would be allocated a person to support with regular

phone calls, offering understanding and empathic

listening. You will be responsible for arranging your calls

with the service user and will be expected to report back

after each appointment so that their records can be

updated.

There is also the opportunity to deliver training talks to

the police and attend wellbeing events.

The ideal person for this role would be someone who

has lived experience of a traumatic bereavement or has

an understanding of the shock and complex distress

following a suicide bereavement. You can expect to be

fully supported in this role by CHUMS.

You will undergo a DBS and references check.

• You will have bereavement, suicide bereavement and

safeguarding training.

• You will be part of the wider volunteering network by

being invited to various events.

• You will be invited to team meetings.

• You will always have a point of contact when

volunteering.

• DBS paid for by CHUMS

• Travel expenses can be claimed.

About CHUMS Charity



CHUMS is Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Service supporting Children, Young People and their families, with other services specifically supporting adults; Babyloss Bereavement Service and Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Suicide Bereavement Service.
The Hertfordshire and West Essex Suicide Bereavement Service (HSBS) supports people living anywhere in Hertfordshire and West Essex of any age. It is a confidential, free of charge service. We are a small team of dedicated staff and volunteers, mostly with lived experience of suicide. International research has shown that very early support following a suspected suicide death gives most people the very best outcomes, emotionally and physically.
We can offer practical and emotional support within around 48 to 72 hours of a referral been received. We provide further advice and guidance in a pack of information.
