Could you spare around an hour a week to visit an older person in your neighbourhood?
For older people living with frailty, getting out and staying connected can sometimes become more difficult. Having a reliable, trusted weekly visitor can help someone feel less isolated, stay connected with the world around them and continue doing the things they enjoy.
As a Befriending Volunteer, you’ll be carefully matched with an older person and visit them in their own home for around an hour each week. The main part of the role is offering friendly company, conversation and a listening ear.
This is a completely flexible role.
Visits can take place at any time during the week, agreed between you and the person you are visiting. This makes the role easy to fit around work, family and other commitments.
Visits will be shaped by the relationship you build. There is no set list of activities, and anything beyond regular company and conversation is entirely optional for you both.
Full training and ongoing support are provided.
Volunteers must be aged 18 or over. The role is subject to satisfactory references and an enhanced DBS check.
