You will be helping with a range of DIY and maintenance tasks to help keep our shops in top condition. You may be supporting just one shop or a group of shops.

Detailed description

We have 32 shops across Bucks and Herts, and they all need to be kept in top condition to ensure that all customers have a positive experience.

As a caretaker volunteer you will be helping with a range of DIY and maintenance tasks in shops such as:

· cleaning window frames and doors, and the windows themselves if possible

· clearing and repairing gutters

· weeding the front of the shop (not gardening)

· internal and external painting and decorating, including window and door frames, fascia boards, bathroom etc

· repairing damaged fixtures and fittings

· replacing overhead light tubes/bulbs

· keeping external drains clear of leaves and debris

· carpet cleaning after accidental spillage

· monthly checks – emergency lights and fire doors

· ensuring fire exits externally are kept clear and safe access is maintained

· PAT testing of shop and donated equipment (training will be provided)

What are we looking for?

· someone who is experienced and competent with DIY – professional experience is a bonus

· a reliable and flexible person who is practical and adaptable, and happy to turn their hand to any task that is required

· if you are supporting more than one shop, it would be helpful if you have access to your own car

· paint and other materials will be delivered to each shop as necessary, and any specialist tools, but it would be helpful if you can use your own tools for most jobs
