What is Family Event Volunteer?

The Family Event Volunteer is a new role designed to support the delivery of the 2024 Public Event Programme aimed solely at families visiting the Museum, taking place across all school holidays. Every school holiday, from Half-Terms to Easter and the Summer Holidays we deliver fun and engaging activities and events for families and need your help to make these a success. 


This role will be volunteering within the Public Events team and joining our team of Event volunteers who work year-round. Every year, more than 25,000 people visit our public events at the RAF Museum London. Our events not only help to raise money for the RAF Museum charity but are also a great way to promote the Museum to a wider audience. Our team of Event volunteers are the face of the RAF Museum at events, helping to create special moments and memories within the unique setting of the RAF Museum situated on the historic site of RAF Hendon.


This role is designed specifically to help us deliver our event programme. It is open to all who would like to take part. We can offer training and experience in event planning, management and operations, if that is of interest to you.

This volunteering role Family Event volunteering is based at our London site, in Colindale, with easy links to Northern Line (Colindale Station) and Thameslink (via Mill Hill Broadway station).

 

Responsibilities:

·     Helping to plan and deliver activities.

·     To set up and tidy up activities.

·     To be friendly and informative.

·     Being the first point of contact for visitor enquiries.

·     Actively engaging with visitors to collect visitor feedback.

 

Skills needed:

·     Enjoy making people feel welcome and love to engage with our family audience.

·     Have a friendly and enthusiastic manner.

·     Are personable, friendly, and approachable.

·     Love being hands-on and keen to get involved.

·     Are looking for some industry experience or training towards a career in events, museums and heritage.

·     Enjoy working with children.

·     Ability or readiness to learn how to work with family audiences in an engaging and educational manner.

·     Ability to communicate with wide range of audiences.

·     Ability to build strong relationship with other volunteers and staff members.


Training we will provide:

Learning about the planning process for events and operational issues.

Learning about Health and Safety consideration and what is needed in professional events within a museum context.
