Join Citizens Advice North Herts as volunteer social media assistant. Grow our online presence and help us to reach potential new clients and supporters.

Detailed description

Citizens Advice North Herts (CANH) is a local charity offering free, confidential help and support to all. Last year we saw over 6500 clients.

We want to tell more local residents and stakeholders about our work. One way of doing this is by increasing our social media presence - which is where we hope you can help.

As volunteer social media assistant, you will:

  • Promote the local Citizens Advice service so that people understand what we do, how they can get advice and how they can become a volunteer
  • Use social media (Facebook, X and Instagram) to raise the profile of CANH locally
  • Create promotional materials suitable for use on CANH social media
  • Talk to clients, staff and volunteers about their experiences and use this information appropriately in your posts
  • Schedule posts so that people are kept up to date about the work we are doing and how they can support or access our services
  • Ensure that posts are relevant, engaging and interesting for a range of followers, including clients, families, professionals, potential funders and the general public
  • Use social media analytics to monitor activity and feed back monthly to the Communications and Marketing Manager
  • Advertise fundraising events and platforms, such as JustGiving, North Herts Lottery and Easyfundraising.

Time commitment: At least 4 hours a week

In exchange, we can offer you flexibility and the chance to:

  • Build on valuable skills, such as communication and listening
  • Boost your CV
  • Work with a range of different people, independently and in a team
  • Have a positive impact in your community.

Personal skills and qualities

  • An understanding of, and commitment to, the aims and principles of Citizens Advice and its equality and diversity policies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience of previous media, communication or publicity work is desirable
  • Good IT skills, with experience of using social media essential
  • Experience of using Canva
  • Self-motivated but also able to work as part of a team
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Proactive and enthusiastic
  • Able to communicate with people at all levels
  • Able to manage time effectively.

This role can be done at our office in Letchworth or remotely. A knowledge of the North Herts and South Cambs area would be an advantage.
